The White House published yesterday the U.S. AI action plan. Below you can find a Gemini generated schema where you can see the main points. The plan focuses on three pillars: accelerating innovation, building domestic infrastructure, and leading global AI diplomacy/security, prioritizing open-source AI. The president and his advisors understand the importance of keeping the U.S. dominance on AI and are putting resources to work as well as eliminating red tape when it comes to permits and government intervention. The majority of the CapEx comes from the private sector with the usual suspects (hyper scalers) committing billions of dollars into AI supercomputers to train the models. 30 years ago, the possibility of a computer malfunction, known as Y2K, forced the world to commit an immense amount of money to IT infrastructure. That gave birth to the internet as we know it today. The AI revolution has started, and it’s accelerating very quickly. Both the U.S. and China are committing incredible amount of resources to compete. It’s difficult to quantify what the impact will be on productivity, but it sure will be positive. It’s less clear if this revolution will contribute to even more wealth concentration and biggest wealth gaps than we currently have. The path for the technical aspect is getting clearer. The social one is not.
