To smooth the process, you will have, of course, the option to choose between cash or digital, but it’s highly likely that the ECB will incentivize the use of the digital euro, simply because they will have more control and more information on what citizens actually do. CBDCs, or Centrak Banks Digital Currencies are already here. One of the most important differences with crypto currencies is that CBDCs are centralized, resting all the power on central banks; and one of the big implications, aside from control, is what will be the role of banks in a pure electronic system that creates money and has the ability to control flows.
